How To Use Google Keyword Tool
By Snake Eyes
One of the things you need to do to rank high in search engine rankings is finding the right keywords for your website or blog. One free seo tool you can use to acomplish this is Google's keyword tool. While this is a paid site if you want to pay to rank on the top spot of Google (this will put your ad on the right side of the page) You can use it for free to find which keywords would work best for you.
To use this keyword tool here are the steps.
1. Go to Google and type in Google Keyword Tool (pretty straightforward I know)
2. You then want to select a keyword or phrase that best matches the description of your website or blog, for the video I used car engine as an example, but any phrase will work.
3. You want to select in the advanced options all countries, all languages, global monthly searches and estimated average CPC or cost per click. Unless your targeting a specif country you want to know how the keywords rank for traffic everywhere. Estimated average CPC is more for if you decide to pay to use AdWords to get an idea of how much advertisers are will to pay to get listed for that particular keyword.
4. Once you click search a large list of keywords should appear. Beside them you'll see a bar representing the competition level for that keyword (if your planning on paying for it) the estimated number of global and monthly searches for that keyword, and the traffic trends for the last 12 months.
5. Find a keyword you like and click on it to bring it up on a Google search page. You'll notice that there are listings on the right side which are paid listings. Check to see how many they are, the more listings the higher the competition for that keyword. Also check the number directly below the keyword. To find out exactly how many sites are using that keyword on their site simply add quotation marks at the beginning and end of the word.
You want to have the lowest possible number and competition ranking, but with the highest number of global and local monthly hits.
6. To fine tune your search click the little magnifying glass icon near the keyword which opens another window and allows you to break down the popularity of that keyword even more. It also tells you which countries commonly use that keyword as well.
Once you've found the keywords you want simply add them to your site, in your text, meta and h1 tags, and on any online content such as articles or hubs that you want to link back to your site. Hope this helps.
